Water Flosser: Benefits, Usage Tips & Maintenance for Better Oral Care

How Does a Water Flosser Work?
Similar to traditional flossing, water flossers remove food particles and bacteria from between your teeth before they harden into plaque. Unlike a toothbrush, a water flosser can reach those tight spaces, helping to reduce gum disease and bleeding.
How to Use a Water Flosser?
A water flosser doesn’t replace your toothbrush or traditional flossing. You still need to brush your teeth twice a day, but you can use the water flosser before or after brushing. Studies suggest that flossing before brushing removes more plaque.
- Fill the reservoir with lukewarm water and place the flosser tip in your mouth.
- Lean over the sink to avoid spills and turn on the device.
- Hold the handle at a 90-degree angle to your teeth and spray.
- Start at the back of your mouth and work your way around, focusing on the gum line and spaces between teeth.
- Spend about 2 minutes cleaning, then empty any remaining water to prevent bacterial growth.
Tip: For first-time users, start with low pressure and gradually increase to a comfortable setting. Pause briefly between teeth to allow water to flow into the sink.
